Carroll and callers discuss the issues -
The city is failing: Big fines for landfill and sewage problems, lack of response to complaints about land use and other violations, waste, fraud and cost overruns by city agencies.
Campaigns are failing: local identities and religion have become the issue, not accountability and what we can do to fix our problems. Sources of some donations are also questionable. Do people donating money from other states care about Hawaii?
An example: For three years the Hannemann administration and his appointee, David Tanoue, Director Dept. of Planning and Permiting, have refused to enforce land use ordinances or issue a Notice of Violation to Waikele Caves, Ford Island Venture and the Hunt Companies for misuse of the property. Did the donation of $5,000 to Hannemann by Woody L. Hunt buy protection and accommodations to skirt City and County of Honolulu's land use rules and regulations at the Waikele Caves with donations to Hannemann, Abercrombie and Hirono?
