PFLAG-OAHU Condemns Proposed Veto of HB444

PRESS RELEASE

Date:              Monday, June 21, 2010

PFLAG-Oahu condemns the Proposed Veto of HB444 on Civil Unions by Governor Linda  Lingle.

Hawaii’s Governor has killed the spirit of Aloha and the reputation of Hawaii as a land of  freedom and justice in one death blow to this bill that has passed the 2010 Legislature.  Lingle has said in no uncertain terms that an individual’s right to love and care for another person is of no interest to her or the Republican Party.  She has bowed to Lt. Gov. Duke Aiona and the International Transformation Network that calls for Hawaii to be the first Christian State in the nation.

Governor Lingle still has the opportunity to stand up for freedom and justice in all relationships by refraining to actually veto HB444 and allow the bill to become law without her signature by July 6th.  The choice is up to her.  We hope that she does the honorable thing and does not veto the bill.  The ball is in her court.

All our children deserve the same civil rights that we their parents have under the US Constitution.
