A Boat, A Truck, and DLNR Dinghy

November 24, 2013.    You may recall, In June we first broke the story about the DLNR's patrol boat Munsen, or Kahu Kai, moored for years and not being used for official patrol.

Once the story broke, DLNR told us the Munsen had been replaced with a new boat.  We think we found that "new boat" parked in Sand Island State Park.

We watched the "new boat" for two months and did not witness the boat being used for patrol during the entire period.   We sent questions to Mr. Aila, head of the Department of Land and Natural Resources, and still hope to get answers.   We are also still waiting for documents on the Munsen from the original story.

Not only did we not see the "new boat" being used for patrols, we also did not see the officers conducting patrols.  The officers would come to work, enter a small office located near the "new boat", and spend the entire day inside.

We want to see the records and enforcement logs.    The United States Coast Guard gives the DLNR approximately 1.4 million dollars for Recreational Boating Safety.   We believe that DLNR is fraudulently claiming the money by filing false reports.   A few years back the Coast Guard threatened to suspend the funding for Recreational Boating Safety for failing to provide adequate patrol and use of the money.    What is happening now?
